Oct-Dec

The winter always seems to go in a flash. However, we again enjoyed ourselves and managed to complete all the planned jobs as well as spending precious time with family and friends. The usual winter events in Brugge came round again, Christmas Lights Party, Christmas and New Year celebrations, etc. Thankfully the weather was very gentle too.

This year Chris had a big birthday with a party on board for 34 of us; we always manage to squeeze everyone in! A team effort with the catering made it easy and Carol made excellent cake. Although the boy insisted “no gifts”, numerous presents came in bottles which were much appreciated.

Winter visitors on board made our life fun, including city girls Sarah and Liz who came out from London to show us oldies how to really live it up, out on the town till the early hours in bars we didn’t even know about!

Chris’s daughter Jo came with her friend Jenny and again it was the young ones who showed us how to hit the ground running with sightseeing, shopping and eating out.

Grethe came again from Norway. She has local friends amongst the other bargees here and we enjoyed sharing our pre-Christmas parties and a traditional carol concert with her.

We had a great Christmas lunch for ten of us at Pro Deo Restaurant. Good hospitality extended even to turkey and pigs in blankets!

On Boxing Day a big group of us went dog walking on the Blankenburg Beach followed by Clair and Andy hosting their regular Stilton and Port lunch.

At New Year our New Zealand cousins Margie and Pete came to stay so we took a cruise to Gent to collect them (with Tim and Jo as crew), much more fun that taking the train. Our New Year’s Eve dinner on board with Louise and Alex was followed by fireworks, music and champagne in the city square and the New Year's Paper Boat Race in the harbour the morning after.
